Composer Elton John was among the famous faces and theatre insiders who headed to the West End last night (March 31st) in order to celebrate the fifth birthday of Billy Elliot the Musical.
As reported yesterday, the Victoria Palace Theatre welcomed a total of 19 Billys from past, present and future performances to sing a number onstage in order to mark the milestone.
John, who wrote the music for the musical after seeing the original film in 2000, said he was moved by the reunion.
"I feel very young and inspired," he commented. "It's a remarkable show with a life of its own."
Meanwhile, creator Lee Hall said he is thrilled that Billy Elliot is still going strong after five years, even amid the recent economic downturn.
"It's like a miracle," he enthused.
Billy Elliot is a feelgood tale which features a miner's son who longs to be a dancer, despite the prejudice he knows he will face to achieve his goal.
