Musicals 'are pure, good time fun'
British people love musicals because they are so uplifting, a writer has said.

Anyone who feels as though they need cheering up should buy theatre tickets to one of the West End's many musicals.
This is the suggestion of Daily Mail writer Ray Connolly, who said he loves them because they are uplifting and offer escapism and emotion that you cannot get anywhere else.
He pointed out that some, like Grease or perhaps Legally Blonde - are ideal for girls' nights out, while others - Jersey Boys and We Will Rock You - call for an all-out singalong.
Meanwhile, musicals like Blood Brothers and West Side Story might also cause you to shed a tear, he said.
"There's something uplifting about being in a theatre when a show is a hit and seeing so many people
simply enjoying themselves," Mr Connolly enthused. "It's just shared good-time fun."
Jersey Boys was recently enjoyed by the Beckham family during their trip to the UK from Los Angeles, with the Mirror reporting that Victoria was so moved by the music that she couldn't help singing and dancing along.
