London to welcome new Rock of Ages musical
Could London be ready for Rock of Ages?
Tuesday, 9 March 2010
London theatre fans could soon get their hands on tickets to see Rock of Ages in the West End, it has been reported.
The Broadway smash hit could be heading across the pond soon, as producers want to see it open here in 2011, WhatsonStage.com attests.
"It has done fantastically well in New York so the producers are keen to bring it to London," an insider revealed.
Rock of Ages won five Tony Awards in its first year when it opened in New York.
Sure to appeal to those who like classic rock bands of the 1980s, the musical features hits from groups like Styx, Journey and White Snake.
It also tells the story of a couple who fall in love on Sunset Strip in 1987, so it has been dubbed as "the Mamma Mia! for dudes".
The music and fashions of the '80s have seen something of a revival recently, with Journey managing to hit the top ten again in January with classic tune Don't Stop Believing.
