Former Monkees star Micky Dolenz has revealed that he loves appearing in the West End musical Hairspray.
Speaking in an interview with WhatsonStage.com, he said it is great to be back in London's theatreland in such an iconic show.
"It's wonderful! I just love doing musical theatre in general and, besides Broadway, you don't get any better than this. I'm thrilled to be here," the signer enthused.
Dolenz added that he likes playing Wilbur partly because of the great songs he gets to sing, but also because he finds the character's relationship with his daughter touching.
He also joked that his on-stage wife Brian Conley - who plays Edna Turnbull - looks great in a fat suit.
Hairspray recently posted closing notices in London and will be booking at the Shaftesbury Theatre until March 28th 2010.
The musical has received a number of accolades since opening in 2007, including a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical in 2008.
