Voting opens for new London theatre award
London theatre fans can now vote for their favourite show in the Laurence Olivier Awards.
Tuesday, 19 January 2010
It has been announced that a new category has been opened up within the Laurence Olivier Awards that will allow audiences to vote for their favourite show for the first time.
Similar to the What's on Stage Awards - nominations for which were announced recently - the Audience Award category will see a list of nominees drawn up based on votes cast by London theatregoers.
The only restriction for the voting is that the shows must have opened before January 1st 2009 and still have been running on December 31st 2009.
Anyone keen to cast a vote can do so now, with the first round of voting set to close on February 1st.
A final winner will then be chosen from this list, with the Laurence Olivier Awards set to take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on March 21st 2010.
Last month, it was revealed that Billy Elliot, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, We Will Rock You, Wicked and War Horse are to battle it out for Best West End Show at the annual What's on Stage Awards.
